Building a Fun, Profitable Franchise Environment
Up closets is one of the Home Run Franchise brands we’ve created alongside Dryer Vent Superheroes and The Lighting Squad. We have very purposefully designed these businesses to be two things – a business that’s fun to operate and a business that is profitable.
The culture of your business determines how much you enjoy your business and that has a lot do with the outcome of your business. People who are think positively and have fun and love their businesses just do better in the marketplace than people who are frustrated.
In my own personal experience as the founder, I’ve run businesses that were really profitable but the franchise culture was horrible and I couldn’t wait to sell them and exit the business because this life’s too short to have a business that’s not fun and is stressful to operate.
Our Franchise Culture is Pro-Franchise Owner
It doesn’t mean that growing a successful business is always easy, and there are always things to learn. It’s important to be an aggressive problem solver. We work very hard in our culture to treat our franchise owners as adults. We see them as our core customers and we care greatly about their wellbeing.
So every system we have designed in our brands, from the way our franchise agreements are designed to the way our vendor relationships work are all designed to be pro-franchise owner. Sometimes conflicts may arise but we have a very robust dispute resolution process designed to produce a positive, fair outcome at all levels.
As part of the vetting process, you’ll have the opportunity to talk with other franchise owners and we encourage you to ask about any disputes and how they were handled. We believe you’ll generally get positive feedback.
Franchise Owners Are Included in Decision Processes
We involve franchisees in a lot of our decision processes. We don’t roll out new products or processes unless it’s been tested by franchisees who opt in to the tests. We listen to ideas and feedback and while we are not a democracy, we don’t push stuff on you that is not vetted and tested, and has the buy-in from the majority of franchise owners.
Fair and Rewarding Royalty Fees
Our royalty system is built around a positive franchisee outcome and culture. We use flat rates instead of percentages. So if you get to be really large, you are going to pay the same royalties as someone who is a year into the system with us in a similar sized market. We think that’s fair and a reward incentive. It greatly improves the franchise relationship and we do it because we want this to be an easy business to get in to and to exit when the time comes, and a fun business to enjoy between those two milestones.
We Treat Franchise Owners Like Our Customers
We treat our franchise owners like our direct customers. We treat them with kindness and empathy and we’re transparent in our actions. We go the extra mile and exceed expectations because we are truly invested in their success.
Treating our franchise owners like customers sets the stage for how our owners will treat their customers. Expectations for customer service are at an all-time low, but because we invest in our franchise owners, they can invest in themselves and deliver quality customer service in their markets.
If you look at our customer reviews for any of our locations, you’ll see they’re almost all five stars.
